Cooper the Yorkie was on just another brisk winter walk with his pawrents and two siblings pups when he decided to take off on a duck chase across a frozen lake. The sprightly pup was so excited he barely had time to notice that the ducks had slipped into the water. Before he could stop himself, he’d fallen in!

Reddit user, Anastik shared:

“Cooper took off, heading straight for the flock of ducks…The ducks cackled and took refuge in the sky. But a few of them fluttered out to the one spot on the pond that hadn’t frozen over. Cooper pursued them. The moment before Cooper reached the edge of the ice that turned into liquid water he knew he was in trouble. He tried stopping, but slid into the pond.

My wife ran after him. For a few moments Cooper tried pursuing the ducks, but soon realized he was in a precarious position. He dog paddled towards the shore, but when he tried pulling himself out of the water the ice cracked around his paws and he plunged backwards, like a child trying to get out of a pool.”

Anastik goes on to say that, without giving it a second thought, his heroic wife jumped right in (fully clothed) to rescue little Cooper. Luckily, after a little bit of a struggle she was able to get Cooper to safety. While that was a moment of utter joy, the mile long walk home in freezing wet clothes was not.

Anastik said this about his brave wife:

It’s not every day that you get to watch your wife do a polar plunge into a frozen pond to rescue your dog, so when it happens you take the time to be thankful that you married a badass woman that can make a split second decision like that.

We’re just so thrilled that Cooper’s doing alright thanks to his mom’s quick-thinking courage! You can read all the details of this heart-melting story on Anastik’s Reddit thread.
