Lucas the Belgian Malinois became a hero when he saved his handler Deputy Todd Frazier’s life.
Deputy Frazier stopped at a deserted rest stop in Pearlington, Mississippi to check on what appeared to be an unconscious person in a parked car. Two individuals and the driver then assaulted Frazier, cutting him and choking him before attempting to drag him into the woods. With the push of a button, the officer was able to release the K-9 from his car. Lucas sprung into action and bit the attackers. Both dog and human have slight injuries but are expected to make a full recovery.
Sheriff Ricky Adam of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said:
“Deputy Frazier is a good deputy and takes his job seriously. He is also an excellent dog handler — he trained Lucas himself.”
